Cardiogenic pulmonary edema and lymphatic dilation secondary to dilated cardiomyopathy
Pathology:
Dilated cardiomyopathy
- Most common cardiomyopathy in dogs, with a suspected inherited component
- Can be caused by taurine deficiency in cats
- Characterized by dysfunction of the systolic phase, with lowered force of contraction and increased ventricular volume at the end of diastole
Clinical Signs:
Cough, depression, dyspnea, weight loss, syncope, sudden death
Gross Lesions:
- Enlargement and dilation of atria and ventricles
- May be infarction in other organs
