Shown:
Suppurative bronchopneumonia, moderate to marked, acute with multifocal abscesses and focally extensive pleural fibroplasia/edema.
Comments:
The caudal lobe shows abscesses and pleural change/thickening centered over a focus of pleural adhesion. The lung lesions were associated with a subacute fractures of the right hemimandibule and right 5th rib.
Pathology:
Bronchopneumonia
General Information:
- Most commonly caused by bacterial or fungal infection
- Most commonly opportunistic infections, e.g. secondary to aspiration or stress
Gross Appearance:
Irregular consolidation in the cranioventral areas, with a firm texture and dark-red or gray-pink colour
Hallmark:
Exudative lesions originating at the bronchiolar-alveolar junction
